Learn about FTP accounts and about FTP in general - what they are and when you will require them.
FTP, which is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol, represents the most popular method for sending web content to a web hosting account. With an FTP application that is installed on your desktop computer or laptop, you can connect to your web hosting server and copy all of the files that you want with a few clicks. You can do this using an easy-to-navigate GUI and it is as simple as dragging & dropping the files in question. The advantage of using File Transfer Protocol is that you can set up separate accounts, each with a different level of access to your web space, so if you’d like to provide a 3rd party with access, for example – a designer, they will be able to access only one particular folder and will not be able to see the remaining web content or any other info, including private details. Three prerequisites are compulsory to be able to connect via FTP – a hostname, which is usually an IP address or a domain name, a username and a password.
FTP Accounts in Cloud Hosting
You will be able to create as many FTP accounts as you wish with each of the Linux cloud hosting
offered by our company, since we’ve chosen not to restrict this functionality. In this way, you can have numerous websites at the same time or grant other individuals access to multiple folders. As soon as a particular task has been done and you wouldn’t like that individual to be able to connect to your web files anymore, you can modify the password associated with the given FTP account or you can just remove the account with several clicks of the mouse and stop worrying about somebody using it once again. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which is included with all hosting plans, will allow you to check the complete list of the existing FTP accounts shown in alphabetical order. It takes only one single mouse click to manage various options for any of them – to update the password or the access path, to download an auto-config file, etc.
FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server
account, you’ll be able to create a different FTP account for each of them, since we have not put a limit on this feature with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. You can do this via the FTP section of our easy-to-use Hepsia Control Panel where you can also check the full list of all the accounts that you’ve created, together with the folder that each one of them can connect to. If needed, you will be able to change the password for a specific account or to change its access path with several mouse clicks. You can also delete an account without any effort if you do not need it anymore – for instance, if you have hired a designer who’s done with the Internet site and you don’t want them to be able to access your files anymore. For the sake of convenience, we’ve prepared different tutorial videos, that will help you manage your FTP accounts without effort in case you have never used a website hosting plan previously.
