According to the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and accurate all the time. In addition, this info is openly accessible on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may be OK for companies, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anyone can see their names and their personal email and street addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that atypical. This is the reason why registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their customers without changing them. The service is referred to as ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. In case it is enabled, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS inquiry. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic TLD extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your details with some country-code ones.

ID Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you order a shared web hosting package from us, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domains provided that their extensions support the service. You can register or transfer a domain and add ID Protection during the account activation procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is extremely easy – once you log in, you will have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” icon, which will inform you if the service is active or not. By clicking it, you can either ID-protect the domain name, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently active.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you choose to order a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you’ll be able to add ID Protection to any of your domain names by taking a few easy steps. If you order a registration or a transfer during the account activation process, you can get the service together with the domain. In case you omit this step and you change your mind afterwards, you can add the ID Protection service from the Hepsia hosting Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you can manage the entire semi-dedicated server account. This is also the place where you can activate ID Protection for all other domains that you register through our company after signup. Renewing or deactivating the service is just as simple and will require no more than several mouse clicks.
